Anonymous asked: hi mae, i was wondering if you get your hair professionally colored or if you do it at home by yourself. if you do it yourself, what products do you recommend using? my hair is black and i have never really done anything to it, but i'm thinking of going brown soon or at least getting highlights
i do it at home. professional is overrated… costs too much and doesnt come out the way i want. but if youre not well coordinated with these types of things, please save yourself the trouble and embarrassment and get your hair professionally done!
but anyway,
it all depends on ur hair texture..
thin hair can use just like regular brown box dye (any) or you can go to sallys and purchase a brown dye of any brand. if u want a subtle change to brown then use 20 vol but if you want it to be like brown brown use 30 vol.
for highlights use lightning blue loreal bleach with a 30 vol developer and use like a frosting cap if you dont know how to make your own highlights. but if you do, just seperate the pieces of highlights you want and apply the bleach and wrap each individual one with foil so they dont mix with other hair. then you may want to finish with a toner with a BLUE/VIOLET base to get it more white/platinum unless you want a yellower highlight which would use a GOLD based toner. AND lastly if you want other colored highlights, just basically do the same but buy the color of highlights you want and apply the color. i dont really have a preference besides maybe like loreal and ion but they all work pretty much the same to me. btw if you want highlights in your dark hair, loreal highlights for DARK HAIR works WONDERS. use a 30 vol developer.
THICK hair on the otherhand, just basically the same shit but you’re probably gonna wanna use a 30 vol like all the time.
